AVOID THE SPRINGTIME SNEEZE

PREVENT HAY-FEVER this season with MSM

MSM is a naturally occurring organic sulfur that is found in all living tissue, animals and plants. Sulphur exists in all living tissue and is an essential element to good health. It is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body and is found in every cell of every animal and plant. Sulphur is necessary for making collagen, the primary constituent of cartilage and connective tissue, and is concentrated in keratin, the tough substance in the nails, skin and hair.

MSM helps to increase the flexibility of cell walls, allowing fluids to pass through the tissue more easily. "If your body is sulphur deficient, cell walls become stiff, hindering the flow of fluid through the cell walls," says Dr Earl Mindell. "MSM softens the cell walls, allowing allergens, foreign proteins and any free radicals to be moved out of your system."

In addition to the effects on human cells it also blocks the receptivity of histamine, the cause of the allergic symptoms such as swelling and itching in sensitive tissues such as the mucous membranes of the nasal passages. This is great news for those who suffer from allergy especially during the spring time. Researchers have found a direct correlation between concentration of MSM taken by a patient and their resistance to allergens.

Unfortunately, the Western diet is low in sulphur. Eggs and animal protein foods have a high sulphur content as do onions, garlic, cabbage, red pepper and broccoli, however Sulphur is easily destroyed by heat which makes it easy to become deficient in sulphur unless consuming these high content foods raw. For this reason if you suffer from severe allergies it is recommended that clients supplement.

Dr. Mindell, author of 'New vitamin bible', suggests that allergy sufferers take 6,000mg of MSM per day for three weeks, and then drop to a 3,000mg daily rate. It is also recommended that allergy sufferers drink more water and increase their intake of vitamin C to lower histamine levels.

I usually recommend my clients who suffer from allergies start taking MSM a month before the spring season hits, remember prevention is always better then the cure!
